Gala Information
One of the purposes of Lecale ASC is to prepare swimmers for competitive swimming. Throughout the training year there are opportunities to compete at different levels. Time trials take place in October/November giving all swimmers a opportunity to record a baseline time for the new season. Club Galas in March and May/June offer another chance for swimmers to compete against their peers and themselves, to see if they can match or improve on their Personal Best (PB) times.
Club Galas/training groups, PTL and Aquasprint Teams are sorted according to year of birth.
Groups for the St Patrick's Gala and Club Championships:
U9 - born in 2008 or younger
U11 - born in 2006-2007
U13 - born in 2004-2005
U15 - born in 2003-2002
Open/Seniors - born in 2001 or older
Results for the St Patrick's Gala will be sorted according to age group and division (gala squad ability or development squad). The results for the Club Championship Gala are sorted according to age group only in two year bands, in line with PTL groupings.
The times recorded in the trials and Club Galas will help to determine which swimmers will be selected to swim for the Lecale Team in the PTL and Forest Feast Aquasprint Teams. If you are keen to be considered for the Gala Squad, it is very important that you attend the time trials and Club Galas to get your times recorded. It is time-consuming and inconvenient to try to record times during a regular training session.
If you are selected for the PTL or Forest Feast Aquasprint Teams, there is an expectation that you will attend ALL meets for that season, except in exceptional circumstances.
Gala Squad Uniform - compulsory for all meets
Other essential equipment
We are entering more and more swimmers in the larger Swim Ulster meets which offers an opportunity to swim longer distances against stronger competition. More information on Swim Ulster meets can be found on the Development Meet and Qualifying Meet pages.
