Gala Squads
Our girls’ and boys’ gala squads are structured by year of birth in accordance with the age groups for the Provincial Towns League (PTL) (these span two year groups).
The A and B squads are each made up of the top 10 ranked girls and top 10 ranked boys in the relevant age groups. Rankings are calculated on fastest officially recorded times in the previous season across all 4 strokes over a 50m distance. Because they are bigger and faster, numbers in the C and D squads are restricted to 32 swimmers (again the top ranked swimmers in each age group and gender). An extra level of fitness and commitment is expected from gala squad swimmers and they also train Monday, Wednesday and Sunday nights. Gala squad swimmers are also expected to attend Swim Ulster Skills, Development or Qualifying Meets.
Development Squads
Swimmers who have demonstrated talent and potential and who are working to improve their technique and speed or who want to swim for fitness.
Swimmers in these squads can move into the Gala Squad if they meet the criteria and can also be called up to swim in competitions.
If spaces permit, development squad swimmers may be invited to take part in an additional session run most Sundays from 11am-12.30pm.
AquaSprint Squad
The AquaSprint League provides an opportunity for competitive swimming for our younger swimmers aged from 9 to 12 years over a 25m distance. There are four age groups based on year of birth (2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006). Our AquaSprint Squad includes those A and B Gala Squad swimmers in the appropriate age groups, as well as, swimmers from the Development Squad who the coaches have identified as ready for competitive swimming and having the potential or likely to benefit from the opportunity to take part in competitions against other clubs.
Holiday Training
Our Coaches have developed a set of training sessions for use during the holidays. These are mainly suitable for older Club Members but may be tailored to younger swimmers too. To download click here.
Land Training
Land Training is scheduled when DLC is closed or due to other uncontrollable issues (i.e. Covid lockdown). An email will be sent to all parents with dates/times connecting via Zoom.
SWIM HATS ARE COMPULSORY AT ALL TRAINING SESSIONS AND MANDATORY AT COMPETITIONS.
