Great results all weekend in Lisburn at the Swim Ulster Short Course Championships. Daniel Molloy achieved PBs in his two events; 200m backstroke 2:34.09 (-1.12) and 400m freestyle in 4:55.42 (-2.2.42). This evening's SUSCC finals will be well worth a visit or maybe the Irish Short Course Championships on 12th-14th December, in Lisburn also. Go and see Ulster's Bethy Firth, Danielle Hill, Conor Ferguson et al. in action.
The Lecale PTL team welcomed Limavady SC to Downpatrick for their third Division 3 meet of the season this evening. With two consecutive wins under their belts some in the Lecale camp quietly wondered if their winning streak could continue.
Throughout the meet the two teams were locked in a tug-of-war for points in the U13 and U15 groups. Despite the fierce competition and close touches, they finished the meet with equal points in both groups. However robust performances throughout Lecale's U11 and Seniors tipped the balance and final points were Lecale 606 to Limavady 538. A huge well done to the swimmers from both teams on the friendly and exciting meet. Please be in no doubt about just how proud your Club and coaches are of you. Special mention to the swimmers who swam in their first PTL tonight - Anna U, Henry, Sasha, Sarah McN, Sarah C, Daniel F, Louis and Ben - great swims all round, well done! Congratulations to everyone who matched or bettered their PBs - a special note for big improvements from Adam M (biggest PB of the night -14.60 sec off his IM!), Daniel B, Niall M, Tom W, Sarah G, Joe T, Mark, Daniel F, Aidan McC, Philip, Josh and Jack T. Click here for full results and PBs. As always, many thanks to all the volunteer officials from both teams who toiled away despite the poolside heat and helped the meet run smoothly. Thank you to Limavady for a great meet and best wishes for the remainder of the season. Our next PTL is at home against Leander on Saturday 24th January, 4.30pm warm-up. Lecale swimmers represented their schools at the Ulster Secondary Schools Championships over the weekend. Lots of good times and PBs. The Cleave/Molloy Down High relay team finished 3rd in the freestyle and medley relays and the Assumption girls finished a close 4th in the freestyle relay event. Richard, Daniel, Aaron and Megan achieved Irish Division 2 times. Click here for your PBs.
There were great swims from all the relay teams at the Swim Ulster War Memorial meet this year. Our teams competed against Ards Olympian Andrew Bree, Commonwealth swimmers and Irish record holders. The rousing atmosphere of cheers and loud music during the heats contrasted with the reflective war memorial ceremony, commemorating all swimmers who fell during the wars.
The Lecale Male Open team - Conor, Daniel, Diarmuid, Richard, Benjamin and Jamie - made the 6 x 50m freestyle relay finals, the prestigious War Memorial Shield event. Conor held his pace well in the opening leg but as the race progressed the gap widened however a tremendous anchor leg from Jamie Hamilton secured Lecale 6th place overall. We'd like to commend the Lecale swimmers on their efforts in the pool and their dignity during the ceremony. They represented Lecale very well, a credit to the club.
