Included are all the many award winners but also photos of the special committee members we say goodbye to. Paul is stepping down after a number of years as Chairman, Katrina as Club Children's Officer and Patricia as Aquasprint Organiser. Whilst stepping down from their current posts we hope it's not goodbye. As we look to the future we must acknowledge each of them, who have gave so much of their time and effort to the club.

Well done to the 9 Lecale swimmers who competed in the Down Championships on Saturday. Following the festivities of Friday night Aoife was early up in the morning session as the only 9 and under swimmer from Lecale competing. She competed in 4 events, taking home 3 new PBs and a super 9th place finish in her 25m back in a strong field of over 35 swimmers! Well done.
This success was repeated in the afternoon session which seen the 10 – 12 year old swimmers join in with the fun. Adam M, Aine, Amy Q, Bebhionn, Charlotte, Christopher, Jessica and Olivia all competed with super PB’s and all with top 10 finishes. Aine competed in 4 events taking one 5th, two 6th and a 7th place finish with 2 new PB’s in the 50m back and 100m back. Amy followed this with 2 super PB’s in the 50m free and 50m fly, taking home 6th and 7th place respectively. Charlotte competed in three 50m events (free, fly and breast), and in strong competition swam very close to her entry times and took home a great 6th place in the 50m free. Jessica followed this up with a 10th place finish in the 50m free and a 5th place finish in the 50m fly – again with 2 new PB’s. Adam Mahon took home 2 silver medals in the 100m breast and 50m back, again with 2 new PB’s, one of which was a massive 11.98s. Bebhionn took home a total of 4 medals! Three bronze medals in the 50m free, 100m fly and the 100m free. She also took silver in the 50m fly, again taking off huge chunks of time in her 100m free and 100m fly. Christopher and Olivia were busiest of all on Saturday competing in a massive 7 individual events each!! There was very little time to rest between their races but they kept up the pace and did themselves and the club proud. Christopher missed out on the bronze in the 50m free by the narrowest margin of 0.01s. He didn’t let that put him off as he swam to a super bronze in the 50m back and 3 new PBs. Olivia gained a fantastic silver medal in the 50m free and took over 7 seconds off her 100m breast entry time. After all this swimming our four medal winners then competed in the 200m medley relay. With tiredness setting in they didn’t let this stop them and they stepped up to the mark coming in a very respectable 7th place in a large field of teams. It was great to see Aaron there in his new role as club captain helping and encouraging the swimmers all day. Well done to all the swimmers that made the effort to compete at this very last meet of the season. You all swam brilliantly and your effort and support for each other on Saturday showed other clubs just how special Lecale ASC is. Tonight seen the finale of another great season for Lecale with our annual AGM and Club Championships. It was great to see so many swimmers and their families attend tonight's event. As ever it was a celebration of the many achievements by all swimmers in the club throughout the season.
Further details can be seen at: lecaleswimclub.weebly.com/club-championship-2017.html Some of our swimmers will continue to compete throughout the summer in the Irish Age Group Championships Division 1 and Division 2. Good luck to Chloe and Adam C who have qualified for Division 1 and Amy G, Isla, Rebecca, Jamie, Joe, Aaron, Philip and Adam M who have all qualified for Division 2. We hope all our swimmers and their families have a great summer and we look forward to welcoming them back in August/September for the new season. Full details will follow closer to the time. Our AGM takes place this Friday evening at 7pm in Down Leisure Centre and will be followed by our annual prize giving. Please do come and support the club as we go through the formal business: our new constitution requires us to have a quorum of members present and to conduct elections for the main executive positions on the club so we really do need your presence, your input and your support. You can access the running order (this was also emailed on 8 June) here and you can read our annual report via this link.
After the AGM we will move into celebratory mode, recognising the achievements of our wonderful swimmers not just in the club championships but throughout the season. We will also say goodbye to those senior swimmers leaving us, many after a long association with the club. Our outgoing captains, Amy and Daniel, will be handing over to our newly elected captains and we look forward to giving them a big welcome as they take on their new roles. Father’s Day saw 4 Lecale swimmers decide to do their Dads proud by competing in the Swim Ulster Swim Festival in Newry. It was a great meet, where we saw PBs, medals and lots of tight finishes.
Christopher and Olivia started the morning off well both with 4th place finishes in the 100m breast and 50m back respectively. In the afternoon Bebhionn and Daniel joined them for a busy afternoon of swimming. They joined forces to compete in a freestyle relay. Amongst a wide field including much older swimmers they came 6th place overall. This spurred them all on to see some great swims with each going home with new PBs. Daniel went home with a 7th place in the 100m back and a super silver medal with a PB in the 50m breast. He finished the day off with a new PB in the 100m free. Bebhionn had great swims, placing 4th in the 100m free with a massive 13.85s PB. She took home a super gold medal and PB in the 50m fly alongside swimming the 200 IM. Christopher went home with a 4th and 7th place finish in his 200 IM and 100 free. Christopher stayed to compete in the very last event of the day, the 100m freestyle kick with fins and it didn’t disappoint. He swam to a super gold medal with a 25sec improvement on his entry time. Although not reflected with any medals Olivia really was the swimmer of the day. She gained 3 new PBs in her 50m breast, 50m fly and 100m free. Overall she went home with three 4th place and a 5th place finish. She missed out on a medal in her 50m fly by the narrowest of margins…0.01sec! Another super day of swimming. Next weekend sees another big weekend for Lecale. Friday night is our annual AGM and Awards Night for all our Lecale swimmers. On Saturday 9 Lecale swimmers are heading to the Bangor Aurora to compete in the Down Minor Championships. Good luck to everyone taking part. After a great nights racing on Friday night, this week see the final night of racing in this years club championships.
In order to accommodate the Coaches vs Senior Swimmers race we have revised the times slightly from last week. *These times are approximate. If we can start earlier we will. If you arrive after the start you may miss your event and will not have an opportunity to swim it later. DAY 2 (Friday June 16th)
COACHES VS SENIOR SWIMMERS RELAY This will take place between Session 1 and Session 2. Swimmers in Session 1 - please stay to watch your coaches compete against the older swimmers. Session 2 swimmers make sure you're poolside early to see it. This is not to be missed! For full details: lecaleswimclub.weebly.com/club-championship-2017.html: The end of year Club Championships are here again! This year they will take place on Friday June 9th and Friday June 16th.
This is a great opportunity for all swimmers in the club to see how their hard work all season has paid off. ALL swimmers who compete in 4 events, in the correct age group, will receive a commemorative medal. The time slots are different from a usual Friday night training so take note of the details below and make sure you’re there early. If we can start earlier, we will. This is a very busy event, therefore if you arrive after the start you will miss your event you will not have an opportunity to swim it later. Senior swimmers will be needed on both nights to chaperone and encourage our learner pool swimmers, both in and out of the water. DAY 1 (Friday June 9th)
DAY 2 (Friday June 16th)
COACHES VS SENIOR SWIMMERS RELAY This will be the highlight of this seasons Club Championships and will take place on Day 2. This will happen between session 1 and session 2 to enable all swimmers (and parents) to be there to watch. This event is not to be missed!! For Full Details: lecaleswimclub.weebly.com/club-championship-2017.html It has been an exciting 2 days in the Bangor Aurora with 18 swimmers competing in the Bangor Open Club Championships. The events were split over the 2 days with older swimmers swimming on Saturday and the younger swimmers (10 and under) swimming on Sunday. On both days all events were in the 50m pool. This could have been a challenge for all our swimmers who normally train in a 25m pool but this did not stop our Lecale swimmers.
On Saturday we saw 14 swimmers competing. Aaron, Adam C, Adam M, Amy Q, Bebhionn, Charlotte, Christopher, Cory, Grace, Jamie, Jessica, Olivia, Natasha and Rebecca competed in a total of 36 races. There are just too many races to go into detail but every swimmer went home with at least one PB or a new time in a race they had never competed in before. Over the afternoon we saw huge PBs, qualifying times and division 2 times. Aaron and Jamie also went home with medals, a bronze for Aaron in the 100 free and to finish off a silver for Jamie in the 100 fly. On Sunday it was the turn of our younger swimmers. Charlotte and Olivia came back to compete for a second day and they were accompanied by Aoife, Joseph, Matilda and Thomas. Christopher also came back for a second day and saw a different side of swimming. He was a great help to Jonathan escorting the swimmers to each event, making sure they were in the “right place at the right time”. Given that these swimmers are only between 8 and 10 years old you would think that the 50m pool would be even more daunting, but as always they proved us wrong. Each swimmer again raced down that pool to go home with new times and Olivia topped the weekend off with a super bronze in her 50 free. Another great weekend for Lecale!! After the success of the Summer Qualifying Gala last weekend where we seen PB's slashed and medals won by Lecale swimmers, it's another big weekend in the Bangor Aurora.
Friday night (June 2nd) sees our Aquasprint squad competing in the "A" final in their division. These are our youngest club members and they have been working very hard over the last number of weeks to prepare for this exciting 4 team final. Good luck to them all. Saturday and Sunday afternoon/evening sees 23 Lecale Swimmers in action at the Bangor Open Club Championships!! There are too many names to mention but we wish every one of them the best of luck. For all Lecale swimmers don't forget that our own Club Championships begin next Friday night. Keep an eye on your emails and the website next week for further details. |
