Lecale's great weekend in Limerick ended on a high note. Chloe Galloway started the day with her wildcard event, the 400m freestyle. Chloe hadn't achieved a qualifying time in this event but was permitted to enter it as her 3rd event. With her usual nonchalance Chloe stepped up to the blocks and made everyone sit up and take notice. She produced a perfectly paced heat and ended up winning a silver medal with her Division 1 time of 2:54.32. Daniel Mulholland was up next in 100m freestyle and he led his heat strongly from start to finish, achieving a great PB and a finals qualifying time also. Chloe matched this in her 100m freestyle event also. The finals evening started with Chloe receiving her silver medal for the 400m freestyle. Later Daniel had his 100m freestyle in which he repeated his performance in the heats, leading from the whistle and slamming home to finish with gold in a new PB time too. Chloe finished an excellent 4th in her 100m freestyle final. Overall it was a very productive meet for Lecale. Chloe achieved Division 1 times in all three of her events and took home her silver in 400 free. Daniel Mulholland achieved numerous Division 2 times for 12/13 years olds and his gold in 100 free. Daniel Molloy is looking forward to competing for the first time in the Irish Age Group Championships in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin in July. A medal may be out of reach in this arena but it is a huge achievement to have qualified at this level. Full results will follow soon. Daniel Molloy did his 200 back final earlier this evening. He almost matched his qualifying time with 2:35.52 and finished a close 4th, a fabulous achievement! Chloe Galloway took the 400m freestyle in her stride this morning and paced herself beautifully. She finished first in her heat with a PB of 5:24:22 and a Division 1 time. As it was a heat declared winner (HDW) event Chloe had a short wait to see how she fared overall but it was worth the wait - Chloe finished an amazing 2nd place and won Lecale's first medal of the meet! Way to go, Chloe!! Daniel Mulholland strormed through to win his heat in 100m freestyle in a PB time of 1:10.23 and just moments later Chloe matched this position and time in her 100m freestyle heat and both swimmers secured a places in the finals too, a superb achievement! Lecale head coach Brendan Mulholland with Lecale swimmers and Irish Olympian Melanie Nocher. Melanie chatted enthusiastically to our swimmers about each of their events and gave Daniel some valuable backstroke tips for his final this evening. Chloe Galloway arrived in Limerick this morning for her first event. She swam like a dream, took a whopping 8S off her 200m IM time, achieved a Division 1 time.....and then received the news that she'd been disqualified for a an error in her fly to back turn. Chloe however took it all in her stride and is focussing on her 400 and 100 freestyle events tomorrow. Daniel Molloy made a good day even better with his 200m backstroke. Got a superb PB, qualified for the finals this evening and achieved a Division 1 time! Lots of cheering in the Lecale camp today! The University of Limerick is hosting the Irish Age Groups Div 2 Championshipsthis year and there is a huge amount of talent here from all over the country.
Entry times are being smashed and Division 1 times achieved by a good few in the 800 and 1500 events this evening. A few swimmers have even swam too fast, swimming themselves out of medal positions and received, much coveted, 'speeding tickets' for achieving times more than 2% faster than Div 1 times. Daniel Mulholland started his meet off well taking 90seconds off his PB for 1500m freestyle. Daniel's in the water again tomorrow morning for 200m free and 100 breaststroke. He's joined by Daniel Molloy in the 100m back. Chloe Galloway will join the boys on Saturday and Sunday. The 4 hour drive is worth the journey and the university accommodation is excellent. If you've worked hard and achieved the qualifying times for next year it's a meet that's well worth the effort. One other thought....UL looks like a great venue for a Lecale Summer Camp next year.... More (good!) news to follow tomorrow! A great PB for Daniel, finished 17th in a strong field of 36. His time of 2:40.24 was just a whisker outside the Div 2 time for 12/13 year olds. Daniel's 100m breaststroke result will follow soon. Read it and SMILE!! Daniel is 1st reserve for finals and got a great PB, almost a Div 2 time for 18 year olds! Daniel relaxing until his 100m backstroke heat. Great atmosphere with Belfast Olympian backstroker Melanie Nocher announcing races and getting the crowd going.
